The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss

George R.R. Martin take a hike! Told in the first person, this stellar fantasy novel reads like a hip rendition of The Odyssey charting the trajectory of a talented young wizard into a notorious murderer. The use of the first person is brilliant as over the course of the narrative you can see the little character flaws that will take root and grow into the traits that will lead to the hero's eventual downfall (I think. This is only the first of three books). Adventure, romance, humor and a fully realized fantasy world make this a great read. Better yet, it doesn't have an open-ended end date. Book Three is the finale. SO, I'm off to buy Book Two!
